Entwood LLC was formed on April 22, 2004 by Douglas J. Gardner, Shane O’Neill and Diogo Baptista to provide Technical Consulting Services to the wood plastic composites (WPC) industry. On July 12, 2006, Entwood became a sole proprietorship company managed by Doug Gardner. Entwood specializes in WPC technology assessment, product evaluation and provides expert consulting services. Entwood is a Contributing Member of the Forest Products Society.

Douglas J. Gardner is Professor of Wood Science in the School of Forest Resources and the AEWC Advanced Structures and Composites Center at the University of Maine. Prior to coming to Maine, he was Interim Director of the Institute of Wood Research (1997-1998) and Associate Professor at Michigan Technological University (1995-1998). He served on the wood science faculty at West Virginia University (WVU) from 1988-1994, and was postdoctoral research associate at Auburn University (1986-1988). Gardner’s research, teaching, and service activities focus on polymer and interfacial science aspects of wood-polymer hybrid composite materials. He is also involved in research in the areas of adhesion and surface science, extruded wood plastic composites, wood pelletization and cellulose nanocomposites. He has co-authored over 140 technical publications and 150 research presentations. Gardner has lectured on wood polymer composites at Beijing Forestry University in Dec. 2006 and at the University for Bodenkultur in Vienna, Austria, June 2006.

Gardner is a member and Past President of the Society of Wood Science and Technology, Forest Products Society (FPS), and the American Chemical Society. He serves on the editorial advisory board of the Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology. Doug has been recognized for his work by receiving the 1992 Cahn Award, 2004-2005 G. Peirce and Florence Pitts Weber Outstanding Researcher in Forest Resources at the University of Maine, the 2007 Director’s Outstanding Faculty Award at the AEWC Center, the 2008 FPS L. J. Markwardt Wood Engineering Award, and appeared in the 2007-2008 Edition of Strathmore’s Who’s Who. He is an Honorary Member of the Union of Wood Processing Manufacturers of the Slovak Republic.

He has a BS degree and Certificate of Advanced Study from the University of Maine and a PhD degree from Mississippi State University.
